VALENTINE’S DAY FLOWERS: ENJOYING, PRESERVING, AND REPURPOSING YOUR BLOOMS!

Valentine’s Day has come and gone, and now you’re left with a gorgeous bouquet that deserves to be enjoyed for as long as possible. As a floral designer, I love helping people make the most of their flowers, whether it’s extending their life, repurposing them, or even preserving them as a keepsake. Here are some of my favorite ways to keep the romance (and your flowers) alive a little longer.

Caring for Your Valentine’s Day Flowers

If you want your flowers to last beyond February 14th, a little care goes a long way:

1. Trim the Stems – Cut each stem at a 45-degree angle to help the flowers absorb water more efficiently.

2. Change the Water Daily – Fresh, clean water prevents bacteria buildup and keeps your blooms looking vibrant.

3. Remove Fading Blooms – If some flowers start wilting, remove them to keep the rest of the arrangement fresh.

4. Keep Away from Heat & Sunlight – Avoid placing your bouquet near radiators, direct sunlight, or fruit (which releases ethylene gas and speeds up wilting).

Ways to Repurpose Your Flowers

Instead of disposing your bouquet once it starts to fade, here are some fun and creative ways to repurpose those Valentine’s blooms:

Press & Frame Them – Pressed flowers make for a beautiful, sentimental keepsake. Frame them or use them for DIY greeting cards.

Dry Them for Décor – Hang roses, eucalyptus, or lavender upside down to dry them naturally. Dried flowers make stunning arrangements that last for months.

Looking Ahead: Flowers Beyond Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day might be the biggest flower holiday of the year, but fresh blooms don’t have to be a once-a-year luxury! Flowers brighten any space, bring joy to everyday moments, and make wonderful gifts for yourself or loved ones year-round.

Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply want to add beauty to your home, consider treating yourself to fresh flowers more often. You don’t need a holiday to enjoy them!
